at ASEAN Studies Center, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand | 28-29 April
Dear Member of Earth,
It is our great pleasure to invite you to a conference in roundtable format with the purpose of co-initiating open coalition networking toward the UN Summit of the Future to be held in September 2024.
The Nature Rights: The Commons for Eco-Peace conference will be held in Thailand
Earth Trusteeship is a conceptual response in the field of law and governance innovation, to the huge need for systemic societal transformation and innovative approaches to Earth System Governance in the spirit of the commons. The conference is the first step in a three-year action-research program Earth Trusteeship Dialogue.
Our book is now in print and will be presented as a global premiere at FCCT Bangkok Thursday 27 April, 17.30-21.00 hours. Seven authors from all over the world will be present, including Right Livelihood Laureate Alyn Ware, New Zealand/Czechia/Switzerland.
The official BOOK Launch will be at Chulalongkorn University, Chaloem Rajakumari 60 building 7th floor, Friday 28 April 16.00-18.00 hours. This launch is a public part of the two-day conference NATURE RIGHTS: THE COMMONS FOR ECO-PEACE. For some authors, Earth Trusteeship represents a foundation stone for Eco-Peace – a security concept that puts eco-system restoration central as our priority common purpose.
Questions and critical reviews, critique, of this collective publication of 23 authors will be most welcome. The book offers DIALOGUE material for “open coalition networking” toward the UN Summit of the Future, September 2024. Organisers include the Connecting the Commons (CTC) group, Thailand, supported by Heinrich Boell Foundation Southeast Asia.
Why Earth Trusteeship and what is it?
Earth Trusteeship emphasizes governance and ownership in the interests of others while recognizing the Rights of Nature. It provides a new framework for self-regulation of the commons at community level and gradual transformation of society at large. This manifests concretely in e.g. ecosystem restoration, food system transformation, innovative multilateralism, and recognition of the integrity of indigenous land rights in the recently agreed “30×30 frame for biodiversity protection”. Existing law and governance arrangements (conceived in the past) are tested to their limits in court cases at all levels.
[Earth Trusteeship was initially envisioned by Judge C.G. Weeramantry, Sri Lanka (1926-2017), former Vice President of the International Court of Justice, The Hague.]
Please join the conference as a resource person (capacity to be personalised).
