Case studies (fieldwork): 7-12 November 2020, in Chiangmai and Nan

Case studies (fieldwork): Hug Muang Nan

For the Fieldwork in Chiangmai, we traveled to Nong Tao village to an in-depth
interview with Siwakorn Odechao taking part in the rice and fish bartering project to
collect additional information from the perspectives of Karen people in this project. He
mentioned that the real message from this project is a representation of cultural
uniqueness in sustaining their life for centuries, but this is disappeared due to
intervention from government and capitalists. Therefore, the fish and rice project firmly
proved that their traditional lifestyle should be maintained; at least in the crisis, they can
survive if they have land for producing food sources. For the Fieldwork in Nan, we
visited Hug Muang Nan Foundation and Ban Joko Learning Centre for participatory
observation and focus group discussion with local resource persons to collect additional
information about seed preservation.
